The fourth section of Dolmabahçe Palace, formerly the quaters of the Crown Price, houses this museum. The entrance to the museum and the Hareket Pavilion, used for special exhibits, is on the seaward side of Beşiktaş. The museum displays works by Turkish painters from the 19th century to the present, and itscollection contains approximetely 2,500 original paintings, 250 reproductions and 400 statues. Contemprorary Tuskih works of art are also displayed from time in special sections of the of the other museums and palaces in Istanbul , in the Atatürk Cultural Centre and in certain other art galleries.
Istanbul Painting Museum History
The museum was established as part of the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts (Today Mimar Sinan University) on 10 September 1937 on the order of Atatürk. The entrance is facing the Besiktas Wharf. This is a three story building consisting of many rooms and halls. There are small structures known as Hareket Pavyon where special exhibitions are held. The Istanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum has examples from several famous Turkish artists, such as Osman Hamdi Bey, Şeker Ahmet Paşa, İbrahim Çallı, Bedri Rahmi, Abidin Dino, and Sabri Berkel. There are four hundred and ninety-five sculptures and seven thousand two hundred and thirteen drawings in the museum. The museum is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays between 9:00 – 17:00. There is no entrance free for teh museum.
