Naval Museum, This museum is in Beşiktaş, next to the Bosphorus-side park witth a statue and the mausuleum of the famous 16th century Turkish admiral, Barbaros Hayreddin. The museum’s impressive collection is displayed in the main building and the gardens. The there-storey main building has models of boats, sections from Atatürk’s personal yacht, tools and other items used in the decoration of old ships. Paintings depicting naval events decorate the walls. The basement is reserved for parts sections of ships that served the Turkish Navy. There are also torpedoes on display. Behind the main building, there is another building, entered from teh sea side, which contains the Old Boats Gallery.
The well-preserved, elegant boats of the sultans, members of the palace and other notables of the 18th – 20th centruies are displayed. An additional building is under construction for larger display.
