Nemrut Mountain attracted the attention of famous German Engineer Karl Sester in 1881. Karl decided to climb this mountain when he saw the gigantic and attractive statues on the mountain. When he saw the statues of Karl, he thinks that the local people are planted here, depending on the myths of the time. However, although common points, Nemrut Mountain sculptures have different stories in different sources. For this reason, no one has yet unlocked the mystery of the mysterious sculptures. Mount Nemrut is at a height of 2150 meters, if you are visiting the mountain you have to walk the first 500 meters of this height on foot. However, you can especially observe the magnificent view of the Commagene kingdom with its former name at the world famous sunsets of Mount Nemrut. Perhaps you can solve the mysterious sculpture full of secrets. You can imagine why Antiochos, king of the Commagene, known as the creator of the statues, has made these sculptures for this landscape. The mysterious sculptures of Mount Nemrut made with god sculptures …

I am quoting the words of Antiochos, which you are supposed to have made all of these sculptures. “I have erected these sculptures worthy of the gods, I built the sculptures of Zeus and many other gods, and I placed them in this magnificent mountain. I built one of these sculptures for myself, and I built this sculpture which was made while standing on the throne of my kingdom Commagene. .. “It is known that Antiochos was one of the most egoist kings of his time. As you read the words, you can easily understand this situation. To make these sculptures Antiochos recycled 200,000 pieces of stone to the workers. From this point of view, Mount Nemrut and its mysterious sculptures are among the rarest spots in the world. In addition, the king made huge tombs for his father and himself with the same material as the statues. You can see these graves during your visit. However, you can only see the point where the graves are located. The reason for this is that after the tombs have been built, they have been covered with blocks of about 150 meters. Many tunnels were excavated even during Roman times to discover the tombs of King Antiochos, but they were not successful. The king is thought to be one of the richest kings of history. For this reason, many of the king’s graves are interesting, but thanks to the tombs hidden by their intelligence, Nemrut Dag is one of the greatest heritage of history.

The most important and well-known feature of Nemrut is the mysterious sculptures on the mountain. These sculptures are made of stone blocks, each of which weighs 6 tons, by pulling here from the edge of the mountain. The statues represent the gods of Apollo, Zeus and Ares in Greek mythology. Although the monks of these gods managed to reach the day-to-day, their places have changed a little. As an understanding of the kingdom, the names of the sculptures pass from the sources of the period as both Greek and Persian. This sculpture also shows the magnificence and richness of the kingdom at the same time as the richest period of the kingdom is the time of Antiochos, which has god sculptures.

Arsemia and Nemrut The sanctuaries are a heritage from the richest period of the kingdom. This rich kingdom was destroyed by the Roman empire in 72 AD. After the declaration of the German engineer Karl Sester, who escalated here during the Ottoman period, the mountain was taken under examination by the German Academy of Sciences. With this review, Nemrut has become a world-renowned place and later on the world cultural heritage list by UNESCO.
