Giant Cypress Trees
The two ceypress trees in the Subaşı neighborhood of Çatalca are amon the giants trees under protection in Turkey. The cypress trees in the Subaşı-Havuzlar region are thought to between 900 and 1.000 years old and they are fifteen meters tall. These giants trees can easily be reached from the center of Çatalca and are the most interesting examples of giants trees.
Avcı Koru (WOODS) Excursion Area
This is an outing area with a rich collection of trees. It is located on the Uskudar – Şile TEM Highway, near Ömerli. Inside the area there are disused mines and the park covers an area of six million five hundred and twenty thousand square meters. There is a great variety of plants here. Despite a lack of sitting areas, the forest can be explored via a series of pathways, and various kinds of plants and insects can be seen. The forest is exteremly suitable for sports activities such as cross-country trekking or running.
Getting here: From Üsküdar direction, there is an exit to the Avci Koru Excursion Area 5 kilometers after Ömerli on the Uskudar- Şile TEM highway, and 10 kilometers from the Şile direction.
