The first foundation of the city is told through legends. A sea horde leaded by Byzas around 650 B.C. started to search for a new location out of their city Megara. In the tradition of the age, prophets were always consulted and the prophets of Apollo Temple at Delphi, the famous prophecy center of the age advised Byzas to setle ‘’across the land of the blind’’. After long research, when the nomads looking for such a place reached Istanbul peninsula and admired the wealth of the surroundings and opportunities of the ‘’Golden Horn’’, they met people who settled on the other side of the Bosphorus. The nomads who believed that one has to be ‘’blind’’ to settle on the other shore when there is an ideal place with such opportunities believed that they reached the place stated in the prophecy.
The Marmara and Bosphorus train tunnel under construction will bea ready 2003 to use and the third bridge will ease the increasing traffic congestion as the city expands east and west from the Bosphorus. And the transportation is improving day by day that is good news for people from the foreign country. New Metro system development is largely copleted end new tunells on Europen side is serving for car trafic. İstanbul traffic that is hard to explain it. Because, somatimes its kind of complicated. But, traffic is big problem for each big city. Like every country there are too many car in Istanbul, but this problem will solve soon. This waterway between two sides of Istanbul sees heavy traffic and is a crucial artery for this city’s ship and piers.
The efforts to make the city more beautiful continued with the emperors after Constantine the Great and they had new constructions, streets, aqueducts and monuments built. The first churches in the city were constructed after Constantine. Even though Roman Empire was divided into two in 395 and Western Roman Empire collapsed in 5th century, Eastern Romen Empire continued its existence under capital Istanbul for more than 1000 years. Contemporary historians named this empire ‘’Byzantine Empire’’ Byzantine Empire that developed under the influence of early civilizations in Anatolia and the grandeur, rules and laws taken from the East and Rome and most importantly under the influence and principles of Christian religion has a very interesting history.
İstanbul is so important city throughout the ages, becausa we’ve already told you it has uniqe history and geopraphy thanks to its mariiage of sea land access, and it developed into and important shipping and trade centre. Hagia Sophia, an unequalled masterpiece symbol of Istanbul, was erected by Constantinus, the son of the founder of the city, the East Roman Emperor Constantine, in the second half of the fourth century. During a revolt in 404, the first church was set on fire. The second structure was erected on a bigger scale and opened with a great ceremony in 415. Hagia Sophia is amazing place which you should see in Istanbul. Also it is example for Istanbul cymbals.
Blue Mosque, At the exit of Topkapı Palace, the Blue Mosque greets us like depiction of Ottoman Glory. The Blue mosque (Sultanahmet Mosque) was built between 1609 and 1616 by the imprerial arthitect Sedefkar Medmed Agha, a pupil famous artchitect Snan.
Galata Tower, The Genoese, who had gradually enlarged the boundaries of the Galata district, took over the Galata Tower area only in 1349, İt was at this time that they built the tower here. The Byzantine resources refer the tower as the great tower (Megalas Purgos), while the Geneose sources refer it as the Tower of Christ (Christea Turris).
