Adana Turkey located in the middle of the plain of Cilicia, the city was built on the fertile lands of Çukurova irrigated by the Seyhan and Ceyhan Rivers. The name of Adana Turkey in Luwian language is Atanuwa, meaning the “City of the Divine Bull King”. The name of the city which is in the Cilicia plains, also known as Que, was later changed to Attania. As understood from the ruins discovored from the excavations, the region has been inhabited since prehistoric times. He city was tied to the Hittite Federation under the name Atanuwa in the 2000 B.C., and was shown to be a part of the Autonomous Kingdom of Kizzuwatmma. It was governed by the Assyrians from the 9th Century B.C., and then later by the Persians in the 5th Century, follwed by the Macedonians, Romans, and Byzantines, before being occupied by the Arabs in the 7th Century,and then entering the domination of the Oğuz Türkmen tribes who came to the ragion, in 1083.
The most important ruins in the region today are the Antique Karataş Magarassa, which was tied to the Hittite Kingdom in the 1200s B.C., and which contains various temples, the Church of Santa Claus, a hammam, cisterns and ancient rock tombs, Kozan / Sis, which has a castle built by the Assyrians, Anavarza, which was built near Ceyhan in the Hittite period, and seen to contain the remains of a theatre, a stadium and aqueduct, Misis, 25km east of Adana Turkey with its Roman ruins and Suljuk Caravansarai, and the famous Yılanlı (Serpentine) Castle on an Acropolis, north of Misis. The most important work in the city is the 21-orificed Roman Bridge. Ulu Mosque and complex, built in 1541 by Ramazanoğulları, Hasan Ağa Mosque which has the signature of Evliya Çelebi on its wall, Yağ Mosque, which has been built on the ramains of an old church, and the 32 m high clock tower are other imporatant works. The most important portrait of Adana is that of lokman Hekim, who lived in Çukurova and has been adopted as a master of doctors through the world. The area is the most important centre of cutton production in Turkiye. Adana Kebab, turnip juice, liquorice syrup, and its desserts are also famous. The modern shopping centres in Adana are Optimum Adana AVM, Galleria and Adana AVM.

Karatepe (Black Hill) Adana Turkey
Kartepe located near Kadirli, and 130 km away from Adana Turkey, is a late Hittite city established in the 8th century B.C. King Asitiavada built here as a border fortress aganist the wild tribes in the north Entrance gate of the fortress which was the summer palace of King Asitiavada is decorated with encrypted and relief orthostats. Soldiers, queen, hunting, music and feast secenes among the reliefs are notable. Sphinx and lion figures that protect the city symbolically were placed at the gates. Two inscriptions carved on orthostats in hittite hieroglyphs and Phoenician language has played an important role in solving the Hittite hieroglyphs Karatepe (Black Hill) which exhibits one of the late Hittite arts is used as an open air museum.
